A documentary about Chinese artists visited Norway last Dec. chasing northern light was aired on CCTV-1 yesterday. You can also watch it on Chinese internet at this link http://tansuo.cntv.cn/history/jianzhengfaxianzhilu/classpage/video/20100427/100078.shtml. The 30 mins long show titled as “Chasing the Unseen Sun” mostly followed the artists’ trip, telling Chinese people what polar night life is like in Tromso, the biggest city inside the north pole circle in the world. Chinese people find it very interesting that in the dark winter time, people are as active as regular. The crew documented a normal Norwegian family’s life in Tromso. 7 in the morning, the father gets up and walks the dog, the mother wakes 2 kids up, breakfast, walking to school,…, kids singing X’mas songs in church,…etc. When the artists and the TV crew visited Tromso, it was close to X’mas, and they all think the dark days added a mysterious even happier holiday atmosphere. The artists were surprised by the colors of the mountains, ice, city lights, etc. they found in Tromso as they thought it could have been all just dark.
Sun Yao’s painting now is hang in the VIP room of the Norwegian pavilion. Ma Qiusha and Qiu Anxiong’s works will also be displayed at special occasions in the pavilion.
A longer version of the documentary will be played on CCTV-4 and 7 in the end of May and the beginning of June. Again Chinese viewers will have a chance to see beautiful Norway and Norwegian Pavilion.
